If You Can’t Beat Them, Silence Them. The Stealth Fairness Doctrine: Enter, The Diversity Czar

Or, in political spin, legislate “fairness” with The Fairness Doctrine and if  that doesn’t work, appoint an FCC Diversity Czar. Fairness, of course, has nothing to do with it. It is merely a means of control and absolute power and a way to silence dissent.

First, some background regarding the Fairness Doctrine. Back during the Democrat Primary, I read about a conversation between  Hillary and Babs Boxer, Ma’am, lamenting the disparity in talk radio and their desire to “fix this legislatively”, which had been allegedly overheard by Sen Inhofe. I had promptly blown it off, as it was soon revealed that Sen Inhofe performed said eavesdropping over 3 years prior. Plus, he is getting on in years and quite possibly made it up.

However, not too long thereafter, there was Senator Lott all over the TV decrying talk radio and Senator Feinstein was discussing a desire to bring back the Fairness Doctrine. The evil “Right Wing” talk radio was, at the time, screwing up the Shamnesty/Immigration Bill. Talk radio hosts were *gasp* DISCUSSING the Bill and the public was getting a tad bit upset, to put it mildly. And, shockingly, didn’t seem to want even a mere whiff of that Bill. “This can’t happen! It isn’t right!” said Feinstein et al., wringing hands in their typical feigned indignation fashion.

Um, in a Constitutional Republic, utilizing a form of Representative Democracy, isn’t that how it is supposed to work ? THE PEOPLE being actually informed about pending legislation (unlike Congress members, who won’t even READ their own Bills), discussing it, then speaking out and the representatives doing as we say? At least that is how I thought it worked. Silly me! I don’t know what I was thinking. Surely I am too stupid to make my own decisions and must just rely on the oh-so-educated members of Congress. After all, they are impeccably trust-worthy, aren’t they?

That one Bill wasn’t even the crux of the problem, according to Senator Feinstein who, by the way, is in dire need of a new hairdo. She’s had the same one since Harvey Milk’s assassination. (too soon? ) Senator Feinstein laments that conservative talk radio “‘pushes people to extreme views without a lot of information‘.  Well, I may not be privy to all your likely over-my-purty-little-head information, Senator Feinstein, but at least I actually read everything to which I have access, unlike the entire Congress of which only SIX members read the actual intelligence documents before voting to go to War and very few of whom have read the pending ObamaCare legislation that strives to take over 1/6 of our entire Economy. Not to mention, I’m also informed enough to know that you just tried to insult me. I assume you believe that I’m far too stupid to actually BE insulted, however. Sadly, I can see where you would get that idea. ( Hello Pennsylvania? Both Obama and Murtha called you RACIST, bitter, rednecks and you STILL voted for them both. Shame on you.)

Further, whined Senator Feinstein, the whole Conservative corner-of-the-market deal in radio is not “fair” and must be fixed. Legislated, actually, to ensure equal time to Liberal thought. You see, the free market isn’t fair; It isn’t the Liberals’ fault that their radio hosts all suck so badly that no one, not even fellow Liberals, want to listen to them. We must be FORCED to listen to them. And Washington will at the same time save us from the dastardly Conservative views that keep us so uninformed and ignorant! That’s the answer! First Amendment and free markets be damned! Conveniently, we’ll forget all about TV and print media where Liberals reign supreme and will focus only on the ONE market in which Conservatives (and to some degree Libertarians) kick ass.

Flash forward slightly and , Lo and behold, Senator Charles “Cheese” Schumer was once again all over the media (as always, NEVER EVER get between that man and a camera) extolling the virtues of The Fairness Doctrine.

He actually compared “being fair and balanced” to censoring pornography. Yes, Conservative thought is exactly the same as Pornography. Except it is clearly more insidious and evil.

The real agenda of the Left is obvious to anyone with half a brain (anyone who didn’t vote for Obama, obvy). They know that if the “Fairness” Doctrine is instituted and Liberal thought is MANDATED on talk radio, talk radio as we know it will fail to exist, thus removing the ONE area of the media where Conservative thought is espoused. If radio station owners are forced to provide “equal” time for Liberal talk radio, profits would plummet as it has been proven over and over again that LIberal talk radio does NOT have as strong an audience…….surprisingly, there isn’t much of an audience for shrieking, angry bullies and crazy pants people with zero senses of humor.

In order to remain operable, Liberal talk radio programming would have to be very limited, as it is not in high demand. Hence, they would have to, by mandate and equal time requirements, scale back on Conservative talk radio or be in violation of the LAW. Again, removing the ONE area of the “media” where Conservative thought is actually allowed and embraced. The fact that this out-and-out censorship and bullying by the Left doesn’t anger and frighten the general population is more than a bit terrifying. Rights and Freedoms being legislated away and no one says a word until it is too late usually. And it is often done in such a way, that the Left can escape any blame.

Once Freedom is taken away, it is near impossible to get it back……without some kind of violence or outright revolution. That is my fear.It is also why I believe the Left IS making it a top priority and they now have the numbers with which to institute it – more likely, they now have a way to skirt around having to go on record voting for it in yet another attempt to escape blame. They now have a “Diversity” CZAR, Mark Lloyd, a former member of a group whom epitomizes Liberal Asshattery, The Center For American Progress.

“There are few things I think more frightening in the American mind than dark skin black men. Here I am.”

In this piece you will also hear Mark Lloyd say:

–Affirmative action “largely benefited white women.”

Diversity requires asking “who is going to step down” so “someone else can have power.”

— “What we are really saying is the Fairness Doctrine is not enough.”

From Newsbusters , an indication of Mark Lloyd’s more than a tad unsettling views of the First Amendment:

“It should be clear by now that my focus here is not freedom of speech or the press. This freedom is all too often an exaggeration. At the very least, blind references to freedom of speech or the press serve as a distraction from the critical examination of other communications policies.

“[T]he purpose of free speech is warped to protect global corporations and block rules that would promote democratic governance.”

More wonderful news about the Diversity Czar. And still more:

For talk radio, this would come from the newly conceived position of the FCC diversity Czar, now filled by Mark Lloyd. Lloyd, a past member of the far-left ‘Center for American Progress’ (CAP), which in its 2007 report, titled “The Structural Imbalance of Political Talk Radio,” was openly hostile to conservative talk radio and saw the Reagan repeal of the Fairness Doctrine as a fundamental component of the current disparity between liberal, (conveniently called “progressive”), and conservative talk radio. After lengthy calculations of the “fairness” gap (in reality, the reflection of the free-market superiority of conservative talk radio), Lloyd and his cohorts disclosed a plan to destroy talk radio through a series of restrictions, observations, and penalties.

With the growing opposition by the public to a re-emergence of radio free-market killers, such as the “Fairness Doctrine,” it seems only too convenient that Obama’s employment of Mark Lloyd, in the hired gun position of FCC diversity Czar, would take place now. This maneuver, while being liberal to the core, also has a familiar Chicago mafia style aroma – where dirty work is not handed down to the visible public figures, but quietly hired out on the side. No matter how one looks at the situation, in reality, we are observing another end-run maneuver to try the take away the people’s choice of what political voices are available when they turn their radio dial.

Limited to talk radio…..For now…..which is horrifying and criminal enough… But what will be next?  The internet? Another area where Conservative thought is beginning to reign supreme?  They are attempting to literally crush Free Speech and silence dissent.  Bill Clinton out and about talking about that old “Vast Right Wing Conspiracy” again — not a coincidence, is it?

Tip for you Obama: if you want to keep ONE promise and have The Most Transparent Administration Evah (and I don’t just mean transparent lies) you should change the word Czars to Comrades.  Also, someone in charge of FORCING “diversity” and certain views? Is actually the antithesis of diversity and “fairness” and open-mindedness.

What a Brave New World.

Magnificently said, Lori! Agree with you, 100%.

      Thankies, Josie!

Yep; it’s all about absolute power and absolute control. Scary.

What I don’t understand is how the left thinks they get no air time on the radio? While the amount of government money has dropped significantly (thx Ronnie), NPR can be heard from coast to coast and in Alaske & Hawaii!

This is one example stuck in my craw, I remember NPR saying less than 48 hours after Ivan hit the Texas coast that “several days have passed and no sign of Fema is to be seen.” Ah! Using hyperbole is a trademark of the left when dealing with the right. Kinda like you so wonderfully said above.

Air America had it’s chance and had no national audience. Tough stuff libs. You already have one government sponsored radio national radio network. Why do you need to shut down the competion, except to hide th truth!
