Juan Williams Reprehensibly Called an Uncle Tom. I Say He is Uncle Awesome

October 17, 2009

UPDATE: CLICK HERE

Juan Williams is just the latest in a long line of people vilified and abused by the Left for not walking in lockstep.  On the O’Reilly Factor, he was told, by Warren Ballantine, to “go back to the porch”.  This is one of those real “code words’; Ballantine was calling him a house negro (a term I find so odious that I can’t even put it into words. It offends me far, far, more than even Janeane Garofalo does and y’all know how much she offends me as a woman).  He was called this hateful term  merely because he didn’t jump on the Demonize Rush Limbaugh band-wagon and *gasp* chose not to spread libelous rumors and attribute malicious quotes, FALSELY, to Rush Limbaugh.

Yet, Rush is the racist one? Racist based on what? As Rush Limbaugh wrote in the WSJ today:

My racial views? You mean, my belief in a colorblind society where every individual is treated as a precious human being without regard to his race? Where football players should earn as much as they can and keep as much as they can, regardless of race? Those controversial racial views?

You know what IS Racist (the real kind, not the ™ kind )?  Attacking anyone of color for the simple act of thinking independently and assuming that all black people should think the same way.   As is calling him or her an Uncle Tom or somehow implying that he or she is a “race traitor” for actually looking at facts in a given situation and making their OWN judgment (people CAN do that, you know, Lefties) based on those facts, instead of automatically jumping on the race card. Wrongly.  I find that disgusting and utterly reprehensible.

I hope Juan Williams will one day leave the Democrat party. It will be their loss and our gain. I don’t always agree with him, but he is a good and thoughtful man. Classy, bright, considers things with a truly open-mind and has more  manhood and spine than one usually sees these days, sadly.  Unfortunately for Mr. Williams, spine is obviously not welcome on the Left.   If they were honest, part of their platform would be : Blind acquiescence and subservience only.  Anyone with backbone, need not apply.

Please watch his response to Ballantine.  Watch the entire clip above, if you have time, actually. Rev Hutcherson (former NFL player and very close friend of Rush Limbaugh’s) and Tammy Bruce are great too, as always.

As for Uncle Tom – if anything, Juan Williams is an Uncle Awesome. And Uncle Tom is another phrase that should be added to Godwin’s Law.

UPDATES (Sunday, October 18, 2009):
Smitty at The Other McCain also hopes Juan finally sees the light and switches teams (not THAT kind!)

On Fox News Sunday, Juan Williams continues speaking real truth to power.  From Newsbusters :

Juan Williams: Why is Keith Olbermann is allowed to announce NFL Games.

JUAN WILLIAMS, NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO: Let me just come go back to something else Mara [Liasson] said, “Oh, it’s a business decision, and people don’t make divisive statements.” I watch MSNBC sometimes, I see their talk show hosts, they’re mocking liberals, going on, this is Keith Olbermann…

MARA LIASSON, NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO: About football?

WILLIAMS: …about politics, right? Conservatives are terrible, they’re a bunch of jerks, blah-de-blah. And then he’s announcing the game. Nobody says, “Well, because he makes divisive statements he can’t announce an NFL game.” I don’t see that.

He won’t leave the Zombiecrats. On some days he still acts like one. It’s a disease. But on this day he miraculously showed the ability to think. Actually, he’s one of the few in the MSM (other than full-time Fox folk) who can think. But never trust him. He’ll stab you in the back in a heartbeat.

Juan Williams is a class act. I rarely agree with him, but I know that his opinions are sincere and heartfelt. I enjoyed his book, “Enough”, and have come to regard him as a good and thoughtful person regardless of ideology. ( I love his back and forth with Brit Hume on Fox News Sunday)
It’s a disgrace to attack him in the way portrayed in the clip. If nothing else Mr. Williams is serious about solving problems in the black community and finding real and lasting resolutions to American race relations (something that those that have called him names apparently have no interest in).
Good for you (Mrs. , Ms. , Miss?) SnarkandBoobs for standing in defense and support of this great American. Good for you.
    “Welcome home Juan.”

I’m used to Miss because my kid calls me “Miss Lori” instead of Mom during school (home school), hee hee. She cracks me up.

Well said, Prohect, and I agree.

    That’s the mentality of some.

“There is no victimization without white oppression.”

“There was no slavery except American slavery.”

“The southern white male is the only racist human.”

This is just representative of the hidden bigotry of liberal hypocrites.

NPR hates when he’s on the O’Reilly Factor. Shows you where they’re slanted to.

I like Juan. I don’t always agree with him. But he cares and doesn’t follow the liberal party pablum. Unlike other liberal commentators on FOX, he doesn’t follow the leftist talking points verbatim.

Good for Juan! Being called names by leftists showing their TRUE ass’s always makes me smile. The Marxists are so predictable (and tedious).

Williams can think what he wants. For so many years Limbaugh has spent his time on the radio mis-labeling or mis-characterizing others . Finally he had his judgment day.

Really? “Mis-labeling or mis-characterizing others”? You mean like what you just did to Rush by insinuating that’s all he did with his time on the radio? Hypocrite.

Montana: I wasn’t aware that blacklisting was okay if you said bad things about people… So then everyone it has happened to was justified… And considering what some of those producers have said about McCarthy, they actually deserve to be punished as well…

So since you are so awesome as to judge peoples fate, please send me your real name and info so that I can judge you on other matters, for your implicit attack here…

I mean you agree that you’d deserve it…apparently

I was watching the show when Juan Williams was told to “go back to the porch” and I couldn’t believe it at first. I rewound it a couple of times, just to make sure. Here are two people debating race and it is the black guy Ballantine who turns out to be racist. It infuriated me as well. I have always respected Juan Williams whether I agreed with him or not, and that night, he was point on. When you are the most viciously attacked, is when you are the most right. Sadly, this was seen that night.

Well-said, Hanna. I completely agree. And I’m *still* ticked off. Such a horrible, horrible thing to say. The worst part is, it was said due to the simple fact of Juan Williams having his own mind and being free to express it. Isn’t that what America and equality is *supposed* to be about?

    S&B,
    good well-placed outrage. agree with u 100%.

not to nit-pick, but i believe the term Ballantine alluded to with his comment to Williams to “go back to the porch” is the same derogatory term “porch monkey” which is also being used increasingly in popular culture. for example, the movies Clerk and Clerk II both used it, as well as it being a common epithet in rap, hip-hop and in music videos. originally, “porch monkey” was synonymous with “yard ape” and the N-word itself, but in modern black-on-black usage and meaning, it did/does not mean an Uncle Tom. it means something much worse.

some might think the “porch” referred to by Ballantine meant the porch with the rocking chair that “Uncle Tom” sat on in the epic novel, Uncle Tom’s Cabin. yet it might help to understand that the majority of those who use “Uncle Tom” as an epithet, especially public-schooled semi-literates, have probably no clue that he was a fictional character in a book attacking slavery. my best guess is that now, any slang term used now referring to a “porch” is most likely referring to the term “porch monkey” and this can be confirmed or researched further by looking it up in the Urban Dictionary online.

hope i didn’t offend anybody with this. just putting my worthless college education in anthropology/sociology to some practical use.

I have a problem with the phrase “Uncle Tom” when used derogatorily, too. (And I do know that he told him to “go back to the porch” – reprehensible and racist!) Uncle Tom was a HERO. It’s a shame that people really don’t know it, but he was a Christ-like figure in the book, and Uncle Tom’s Cabin is credited with helping the anti-slavery cause. It was the beginning of the end.

I wish that someone well-educated enough (or at least someone who has read the book!) might thank someone for being called an Uncle Tom. It ought to be seen as a compliment, and if enough people read the book – maybe use some of your gripe and attack time to do so – I think they’d agree.
