No Need For That Pesky Driver’s License Any Longer!

July 30, 2010

My latest post at NewsReal, crossposted at Daily Caller:

A decision came down in the lawsuit pursued by the Obama Administration’s Department of Justice, headed by Eric Holder, against the Arizona Immigration bill SB 1070.  Judge Susan Bolton, a Clinton appointee, issued an injunction blocking several pertinent parts of the new law from going into effect Thursday. According to the Judge, it’s apparently  a no-no for States to enforce federal law, even if the federal government totally sucks at it and can’t do it themselves. The Arizona law was put in place and was, in fact, necessitated primarily by the federal government’s failure to enforce its own, but perhaps some federal laws are just there for show? To trick us all and then just say, “Psych! We really didn’t mean it. Bless your hearts.” So, it seems there are laws and then there are law-laws:

A federal judge on Wednesday blocked the most controversial parts of Arizona’s immigration law from taking effect, delivering a last-minute victory to opponents of the crackdown. The overall law will still take effect Thursday, but without the provisions that angered opponents — including sections that required officers to check a person’s immigration status while enforcing other laws.

The judge also put on hold parts of the law that required immigrants to carry their papers at all times, and made it illegal for undocumented workers to solicit employment in public places.

Firstly, as Arizona blogger, ExJon pointed out on Twitter, it’s kind of hilarious that they keep referring to the law as “controversial” when 70% of the population approves of it. Secondly, whew! No need for pesky old legal documents people! What a relief — the pics always come out horribly anyway. Plus, how can we in good conscience require people here illegally to abide by the same rules as those here legally? That’s cuckoo pants! And, I’m assuming racist, natch. Also cuckoo pants? Judge Bolton’s reasoning regarding the same:

“Requiring Arizona law enforcement officials and agencies to determine the immigration status of every person who is arrested burdens lawfully-present aliens because their liberty will be restricted while their status is checked,” Bolton, a Clinton appointee, said in her decision.

See? I suppose that I shouldn’t bother  renewing my driver’s license because my liberty is infringed every time I speed (err .. I mean, if I did speed)  and a police officer asks to see it. All the while he’s running my license, I’m totally being liberty restricted and stuff!

So, Arizona cannot enforce immigration law, based on federal immigration law, while the injunction is in place; did this judge just make Arizona itself a sanctuary state? Sorry, Arizona, but no worries. I’m sure Obama will put up more super stern signs for you right quick.

In the meantime, I’m sure your continuing border crisis is no big whoop to Obama. I suppose it doesn’t matter to him, since there aren’t many golf courses along Arizona’s border. Plus, you know, that The View gig kept him busy. Priorities!

Lori can’t show us any evidence that violent crime is up in U.S. border towns, because all the evidence shows that it is sharply down in recent years, and that the number of illegal immigrants crossing the border is actually lower now than at any time in the last 30+ years.

Lori can’t argue the fact that this administration is actually deporting illegal immigrants in record numbers, or that it has quadrupled the number of businesses audited on suspicion of hiring undocumented workers, doling out $6.4 million in fines.

Lori can’t deny that as of today, August 1st, Arizona will be getting 524 of the 1,200 National Guard troops being deployed along the southern border, and an additional 300 Customs and Border Protection agents and inspection officers are being sent to the Tucson, Arizona area, along with mobile surveillance vans, helicopters, and additional technology.

Lori can’t deny that even the CEO of Fox News has now advocated for a path to legal status for undocumented immigrants now living in the United States. Even Rupert Murdoch knows that enforcement is just one aspect of our immigration problem.

Lori can’t accept that the Arizona law just may have some constitutional inconsistencies. She seems to feel that the U.S. Constitution should not even be considered when it comes to Arizona law. And that a lawsuit exploring the constitutionality of a law is cuckoo pants, unless of course it’s a law that she doesn’t agree with, such as Obamacare.

    Lori says:

“I suppose that I shouldn’t bother renewing my driver’s license because my liberty is infringed every time I speed (err .. I mean, if I did speed) and a police officer asks to see it. All the while he’s running my license, I’m totally being liberty restricted and stuff!”

That’s disingenuous. Lori may feel differently if while that officer is enforcing the local speed limit by pulling her over, she is detained for hours while her immigration status is investigated, only to find that she is, in fact, a legal citizen.

Molten also can’t show us any proof of these “claims” he/she/it has just made because they were pulled out of the same place he/she/its head is stuck…up its ass.

Brilliant retort, Gigabyte. Conservative thinking at it’s finest.

Why is something that 70% of American support still “controversial”? Because “controversial” = liberals object to it.

If we actually detained people reasonably suspected of being illegal immigrants (and that’s “illegal”, not “undocumented”), maybe fewer of them would be able to kill Americans”.
