CNN Calls Scott Brown ‘Insurgent’. Seriously.

January 18, 2010

That’s right, CNN (a “real news outlet”, according to the White House) called Scott Brown “insurgent”:

(CNN) – Insurgent Massachussetts Republican Senate candidate Scott Brown told CNN he expects to be installed quickly as Massachusetts’ next senator should he win the state’s special election Tuesday.

Asked about the state of the race, Brown said he’s still campaigning as if he’s running “down 30 points.”

But sounding confident, the GOP state senator says he’s made plans to travel to Washington Friday if he’s victorious.

Looks like CNN also doesn’t know how to spell Massachusetts! I don’t even think they were trying to be funny. As Jon from Exurban League said on Twitter:

CNN now referring to Brown as an “insurgent.” If he wins, they will upgrade him to “terrorist.

Heh. I must quibble with two points. Firstly, I’d change “if” to “when”. I’m just that brazen! Also, there are no such thing as icky terrorists (none at all even in Afghanistan, according to Marcia Coakley — I call her Marcia, in homage to Patrick Kennedy). It is just man-made disasters, remember? So, perhaps they’ll start calling him a “man-made disaster causer.” I’m certain he will be put on the White House “fishy” list post-haste.

Pants, really? They could have used any one of a dozen words to describe Brown (with the same effort they put into not calling terrorists “terrorists”) but chose “insurgent”. It’s no secret the bias CNN has against the GOP so their word choice for the article comes as no surprise.

OK. But next time some Black people object to the entirely legitimate word “niggardly,” recall how you objected to this entirely legitimate word.

    From Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary (m-w.com):

    Main Entry: insurgent
    Function: adjective
    Date: 1807

: rising in opposition to civil authority or established leadership : rebellious

Given the liberal history of Mass. Senators, actually, I’d call that an accurate description of the man.

Geez Louise. Learn about a little something called tongue in cheek.

But thanks for calling me lazy and stupid! Like Thatcher, I know when people resort to name calling, they pretty much have nothing else to say. Therefore, I win. Thanks!

Actually, I was referring to some of the comments in reply to your post and to other bloggers who are lazy in their use of language. I have no issues with you personally.

        You’re welcome.
