Olbermann (And Maddow) Learn That Unrequited Love Hurts
Originally / cross-posted at iowntheworld.com
Last night, Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow learned that unrequited love totally hurts and that mindless hero worship, based on nothing tangible, is pretty damn stupid. Yes, Obama is even losing the Left now. I find it even more hilarious than I would otherwise, because, usually when one angers both the left and the right, they are at least pleasing the middle. Not Obama! He is also rapidly losing Independents, according to every latest poll. He truly is a transcendent figure!
Last night, Keith Olbermann gave one of his “I’m pretending that I’m a super serious Journalist”, full of anger, spittle-flecked Special Comments regarding the proposed Health Care Bill currently pending in the Senate. DBKP has the full video – it’s worth a look for entertainment purposes. Comedy gold! Most amusing is his disbelief that his man-crush, Obama, is a total failure.
He starts off blaming evil Republicans first, of course, saying that there are enough villains to go around and in a just world, THEY would get sick. Nice, Keith. The kindness, caring and tolerance of the Left on display once again! You disagree with us? You should DIE. Sigh. He then proceeded to call Joe Lieberman a “Senatorial Prostitute” who has sold us all into slavery. Again with the slavery comparisons! Dear Left: Get some new talking points. Your current ones are older than Helen Thomas.
This was all capped off by the most schadenfreude-y stuff ever. Olbermann said true health care reform is now a “corpse killed by Republicans AND by a White House filled with men and women who have proved themselves poorly equipped for that fight.” You are just seeing that they are inexperienced rubes NOW, Keith? Love really is blind, I suppose.
He continued along this delicious vein for quite some time (peppered with his requisite “Sirs!” – that means he’s super serious) He said:
“Sadly, the President has not provided leadership. You have badly misjudged. Sir! Your hands off approach enabled the national humiliation of town halls and the street walking of Lieberman.”
(pause to catch my breath; cant’ stop giggling)
“This bill costs you the Left! The bill is less fetish, more bondage.”
( I don’t even know what that means. Perhaps he is projecting thoughts of his fantasies involving Obama?)
“The mandate required to buy insurance must be stripped out! It’s immoral! And betrayal of those who elected you, Sir! I hereby pledge I will not buy this insurance. Sign this at your peril, Mr. President!
“JAIL ME IF YOU MUST!”
Gee, Keith. Histrionics, much? Enter, Rachel Maddow. This is what I found to be the most revealing (and the most hilarious). Olbermann ends his rant with his usual “Good Night and Good Luck”, as if he is Edward R. Murrow (good grief, the man truly is delusional) and passes it, shakily and clearly devastated, over to Maddow.
She, for all intents and purposes, admits that they are both highly invested in Obama and not objective in the slightest, even though the White House claims they are part of a ”real news network.” By saying “I know that was difficult to do,” while on the verge of tears, she is admitting that Olbermann has a man-crush on Obama (and so does she.) It is pathetic. It’s like watching someone find out there is no Santa Claus, or that the sports hero they worshipped is an immoral cretin. Only way funnier. I picture them both, frantically scrawling in their tear-stained diaries like teen-aged Emo chicks, with REM’s “Everybody Hurts” and “Losing My Religion” playing on a loop.
UPDATE: Ed Morrissey shows why Olbermann’s attempted point is ridiculous, at best.
