The Ivory Tower Hasn’t Learned the Lessons of the Twin Towers

April 23, 2009
We mustn't forget

We mustn't forget

I’ve been reading and listening to the drivel and honestly completely incomprehensible outrage from the Left on the whole release of the “torture” documents. Andrew Sullivan, for one.

I know I’m not the quickest on the uptake, but I don’t get the outrage.  I don’t even get the “arguments” attempting to support the outrage.  Maybe it is above my “pay grade”, but I don’t think the people burnt to death in fireballs on September 11th  would mind if a terrorist had a bug crawl up his ass. Offensive? Well, you know what offends me? People who care more about heinous murderers and their “rights” and dignity (are you kidding me? ) than the victims.  Harsh? So is reality. President Obama and his fans should try living in it once in a while.

Try living in a world of practice, not theory.  Try to get outside of your ivory towers once in a while.  Then maybe, just maybe, you won’t wish to PROSECUTE the very people who have kept you alive.  In case you are all 420’ers (and you might be; that could explain the lack of sense. Wait, sorry. That’s an insult to potheads) and forgot, everyone was in an uproar after September 11th demanding to know why the Administration didn’t stop the WTC attacks from happening.  How they did not glean any information before-hand.  Hello?  Clinton and his “it’s a criminal investigation” stuff. (of course, not AS criminal as, say, a bunch of American people in Waco, Texas)

So, President Bush fixed that.  The interrogations worked.  They got information.  They saved lives.

It is funny to me that that it tends to be those who have no problem with abortion……on demand…..at any time, who are trying to preach to others about “morality”.   When YOU are intellectually honest enough to at least admit that THAT is immoral, then maybe I’ll give you the courtesy of at least listening to your arguments. Until then……not so much.

Do y’all believe that the terrorists are going to stop using nail bombs..on children…causing the most horrendous of painful deaths, that they will stop strapping bombs to their own children or decapitating  journalists or seeking to, you know, attack Los Angeles (which attack the enhanced interrogations stopped, by the way) just because we question them nicely and send them off with some milk and cookies?

Using whatever we can to extract information from heinous murderers does NOT put us on their level……we are SAVING lives. They seek to destroy.  Maybe I”m crazy, but to me scaring someone with a caterpillar (A CATERPILLAR.  Come on, man, they are fuzzy and cute! They are one of  the least icky bugs. Besides ladybugs. But I suppose ladybugs would be too offensive having a dirty woman name and all) or not letting them sleep or making them feel as if they are drowning in order to get information to prevent the deaths of another 3,000 Americans is A-OK with me.

How can one even pretend it is on the same level? Even to further your hate-campaign against George W. Bush and Dick Cheney (by the way, a clue:  They are NO LONGER IN CHARGE) I suppose I should stop worrying about my child being protected from terrorists and worry more that she is shielded from icky caterpillars or from being dunked at the town pool.

Further, how do you justify the release of the information? Now they know exactly what our men and women can and can’t do. Do you not realize this AIDS the terrorists? That it makes it easier for them to attack us again?  And, in case you don’t realize this in your puppy and rainbows hazes…by attack, I mean try to KILL us.

That anyone would seek to punish the men and women who have been protecting us and saving us from further acts of destruction is unfathomable to me.  I didn’t think I could get more disappointed by people.  I was wrong.

I’m beginning to think that those in the ivory tower realize it is a house of cards. They distract and deflect to weaken their true enemies who threaten to knock it down…American patriots.

It’s eerie how the administration’s efforts to appease those who would do us harm reminds me of an ancient Arabic proverb: “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”.

I wonder what the President is willing to sacrifice for the sake of immediate convenience?

Thanks Dede. Love you lots too🙂

Tosst (giggling madly and childishly at your name, btw)..precisely. he wishes to appease those that want to destroy us, yet calls people who believe in the Constitution “radical extremists”

Are people really so blind? It’s baffling, really.

      “Are people really so blind?”

Not blind, but maybe distracted by the shiny object.

Dear Snarkandboobsandcommonsense, I’m not suppose to be envious, but your use of words is making it hard… not to be envious, that is.

It’s sickening & at the same time amazing that these socalled lovey liberals just don’t seem to care about the terrorist attacks but feel some bizarre sympathy for those who have killed Americans & others.

You are soooo right, we mustn’t forget 9/11, but the liberals have.

    Outstanding blog!

Great blog, Lori. Those who spout off in righteous indignation about torture obviously haven’t seen Nick Bergs head removed. What we did to these men is FAR from torture, but torture would be justified when it came to these men. They want nothing more than to murder men, women, and children in this nation. Anyone who thinks this can be prevented by treating this like a routine domestic crime or by throwing money at it is insane. This enemy had 19 men come to this country and live among us. They met Americans. They experienced our way of life and then they flew planes into buildings and murdered thousands of people. This is not an enemy that obeys the rules of war. This is not an enemy that can be reasoned with. They must be destroyed or we will be destroyed. If another terrorist attack happens upon American soil, it will be on the hands of those who were more concerned with the supposed rights of an enemy than the lives of their fellow citizens. After 9/11 and knowing what we know, it is irresponsible and reckless for President Obama to allow this issue to be politicized. If it happens again he will have blood on his hands.

    Excellent blog LZ, as usual.

This is a tough one for me though as I am one of those “..we don’t torture..we are better than them…” folks, but…what it comes down to for me is What exactly is torture? Just being in prison can be considered a form of torture (I certainly don’t ever want to be in one) because being stripped of my liberties and freedoms is worse than any physical harm that could be done to me.

Of course it’s easy to see things like the Iron Maiden, The Rack and bamboo shoots under the fingernails as torture. But what about the Chinese Water Torture? They slowly drip water on your forehead and over time it drives you mad. Well that one is lame and it doesn’t even work. I know. I had my brother do it to me and I didn’t confess a thing. Of course I was only like 8 years old and hadn’t done anything that bad (yet). However, I suspect (as many of you probably do) that the madness aspect is true.

Waterboarding, I do not think of as torture because it does not create any physical harm, which is the legal definition of torture.

The real debate seems to be trying to redefine torture by encompassing psychological methods.

This then becomes another slippery slope deal because if the courts begin classifying psychological discomfort as torture, then that opens the doors of many jail cells.

Great post. It is sad to see the safety of our country diminishing each time the O opens his mouth.

“So, President Bush fixed that.” Did he?
    “The interrogations worked.” Did they?
    “They got information.” Did they?
    “They saved lives.” Did they?

You’re just making this stuff up. Can you possibly even point to a sliver of actual evidence for these claims? You fetishize a faux-macho president who liked to act tough, but who in the end failed to keep us safe (9/11 happened on HIS watch) and make us any safer.. You want to talk about American lives lost? How about the thousands of soldiers who died fighting an utterly unjust war that Bush and Cheney wanted so bad they were willing to ILLEGALLY torture people to contrive links between Saddam and Al Qaeda? By they way, there were none.

A quick summation of the things you don’t care about: the troops, the law, the truth. You’re really quite the piece of work.

I had a great elaborate answer to your comment, until I realized that you really had nothing to begin with!

(were you the guy that gave me the hemp brochure on 2nd and Pike last night?)

Thank you for bringing some sanity to this dump, Ben.

If you wingnuts would crawl out from under your beds once in a while and talk to someone outside of your dead-ender circle-jerk, you’d realize that no one has forgotten about 9/11, nor does anyone want to coddle terrorists. The issue for us (the great sane majority) is whether we allow the attacks to destroy everything this country was built on. This is about US not THEM. Are we going to be a nation of laws or not?

      Dearest whateverthefuckyournameis_goy

You need to lay off the weed, I’m serious…the paranoia spells are overwhelming your reason….

9/11 wiretapping voodoo bullshit dreamt up over a hooka is exactly the kind of profoundly stupid tail-chasing wank-o-tron that has been obsessing the nutocrats and the nutocrats ONLY for ages while you spin your wheels tirelessly and the same old political games that were the real problem on 9/10 keep going right under your nose without being noticed once…
