Exposing Media Tools: The Fourth Estate Is Insolvent
The Fourth Estate is Insolvent: Time to Close Probate.
While Media Watching has become far less difficult now that so many media outlets no longer even feign objectivity, there is still some work to be done. Using the media as its personal mouthpiece has been an incredibly successful tool for the Left and it needs to be exposed every single time we spot it. Exposing Media Tools can be fairly easy now, since they are pretty much “outing” themselves. But some Tools remain rather stealthy. It’s up to us to keep a sharp lookout and be keenly aware of some of the subtleties they use, all achieved with the dexterity of someone who manages to nab the last donut off Michael Moore’s plate.
ACORN’s venture into prostitution rings has recently been brought to light and we can do the same with the larger prostitution ring, known collectively as The Mainstream Media. I’ve included a handy-dandy Cliff Notes version at the end of this piece (for those more shortly attention-spanned.) It’s really all you need to know about The MSM — But, of course I’m not going to let them off that easily!
MSNBC has made Media Watching simple. (Thank you, MSNBC, For Tolling Your Own Bell!) While they still persist in claiming some sort of moral authority, with aggrandized claims of journalistic integrity – Olbermann portrays himself as Edward R. Murrow, for heaven’s sake - it’s quite clear to anyone with any semblance of clarity that they truly have given up on any attempt at objectivity. This should be rather obvious to anyone who watched the maudlin displays during the Ted Kennedy hagiography as well as to anyone who watched any news coverage at all regarding the Town Hall meetings or to anyone who noticed the utter lack of coverage in regards to Van Jones and of course the bombshell ACORN expose. Phew… I’m out of breath.
The bias in all those instances was overwhelming. I can’t bring myself to discuss the Kennedy coverage again; it sickened me. I covered the parts that bothered me most here (for anyone who has the stomach to revisit it.) The town hall coverage was almost as troubling, except no one covered up a homicide nor disgustingly admitted that they thought a woman’s life was totally worth losing, as long as it gets you some uber-sweet liberal policy-making. (Wait — they are pushing a false narrative in order to achieve the passage of Obamacare, so judging whose life is worth what IS still involved. OK, so the coverage was AS troubling.) One of the most flagrant instances was when an MSNBC anchor said that people attending town halls, and using the word Socialist, were really racist and that Socialist is “code” for the N-word. No, really. He said that. Look:
MSNBC then followed up with classic Riefenstahl propaganda; they discussed a man bringing a gun to a town hall meeting with nefarious intentions. Clearly, the man was A Racist ™. The man who “brandished” the gun? He was an African American. MSNBC cropped him out of the video. This was not just bias, but outright lying and utter propagandizing purely for the purpose of driving a false narrative, once again.
The thing is, they’ve been doing this for years, only they were often more stealth about it. Using “keywords” slipped into articles or newscasts, in order to paint things in a certain light, is a tool that the Media still uses, in collusion with the Left, when they feel like going old school. We need to point this out too. I call this Blatant-Lite bias. It’s a little trickier to discern.
For instance, while watching the Sarah Palin campaign coverage, the first thing that tipped me off that the mainstream media was going to go out of their way to make sure she was demonized was the breaking news alert moments after she was announced as the VP Running Mate. The Breaking News? “How Many Houses Will Palin Add to the Republican Ticket?” Although this was a ham-handed swipe at McCain (for not knowing how many houses he owned) it was also a subtle siren call to the legions of fellow trave- I mean reporters – that Sarah Palin was dangerous to them. You see, they didn’t know what to do with Governor Palin. She confuses them; they don’t understand her, nor do they understand the people who DO. They are used to the breed of Faux-Feminists; women whose meme is to whine and who have an overwhelming need to be a victim. And, like children, when they are confused, they lash out and throw temper tantrums.
Did anyone ever ask that about Kerry? Or Edwards for that matter? Did anyone ask “How Many Hair Plugs Will Joe Biden Add to the Democrat Ticket?” No. (Though I asked myself. Out loud. Then snickered madly.)
Was this an attempt by a copy editor to be breezy? Maybe. And maybe it was the final stages of Bush Derangement Syndrome and its mutation into Obama Messianic Syndrome. It was all just a coincidence that within a few hours of Bias-Lite the “Press” became vicious fire ants, attacking en masse. (I’ll lose the sarcasm quotes around “Press” when they start acting like real newsmen and women.) Since they can’t back up their ideas or arguments with rational facts, they resort to name-calling; since we don’t simply take their Oh-So-Smart word for it, we must be buffoons.
Here is another example of Bias-Lite from The AP:
“The choice of Palin was seen as a bold effort by McCain to attract disgruntled Democratic and independent supporters of Senator Hillary Clinton, who was defeated by Obama in the race to be the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee. Palin, a telegenic conservative, has led the oil-producing northwestern US state since December 2006 and was the first woman and youngest person to hold that state’s top job.”
Yup, that’s it. McCain chose Palin solely because he wanted to attract disgruntled Hillary supporters. Funny, but I don’t remember any articles saying that Obama was “seen” to have picked Biden so as to attract old white plagiarists with doll hair.
And would they ever say “telegenic,” or “liberal,” when reporting about a democrat female candidate? (Just pretend that telegenic is a possibility for a liberal woman, for example purposes only.) Pro tip: you can automatically disregard any article as being biased and having an agenda if they refer to her as, Sarah Palin - Former Beauty Queen.
Some members of the “Press” lost their objectivity decades ago. I’m pretty sure Mike Wallace’s objectivity is somewhere hidden in Al Capone’s vault. That must have been what Geraldo was actually looking for there, if only to acquire some for himself. (He is so race card-y that even his ‘stache has its own laminated one.)
Does anyone remember Mike Wallace’s interview with Mitt Romney and his wife? Luckily, I do, so I will refresh your memories:
Romney’s wife, Ann, who converted to the Mormon Church before they were married, is also interviewed. Asked if he had premarital sex with Ann, Romney tells Wallace, “No, I’m sorry. We don’t get into those things. The answer is no.” More of the enthralling interview can be read here.
What a completely asinine and utterly irrelevant question. Seriously, who cares? I honestly do not care if he did test-drive before purchase. It’s only practical. I also found it quite crass that he asked the question with Mitt Romney’s wife sitting right there. Additionally, I thought sex lives were off limits? Isn’t that a “personal matter,” and all? At least, that is what we heard, ad nauseam, during Clinton’s administration.
I certainly don’t recall Mike Wallace asking similar questions of the Democrat candidates, do you? I never heard him ask Hillary, “So, Hillary, when did Bill first cheat on you?” Pity he didn’t ask such questions of John Edwards; it would have saved us all from the seemingly endless “Two Americas” spiel.
Then there was this gem of an “unbiased” article about President Bush during the Queen’s visit.
WASHINGTON, May 4 — How does George W. Bush, a towel-snapping Texan who puts his feet on the coffee table, drinks water straight from the bottle and was once caught on tape talking with food in his mouth prepare for a state dinner with the queen?
Good Lord! Feet on coffee table AND drinking water from a bottle? The boor! Understandably, the Media was upset over such gauche manners because the previous President had been the absolute model of decorum. And towel-snapping? He must be a good old boy chauvinist full of misogyny and stuff; again, unlike his predecessor, except for that part about not knowing you are supposed to SMOKE a cigar, or that it is proper etiquette to cough up the dry cleaning money if you make a mess on someone’s dress. And, lest we forget, the knock-down, redneck fights with the little woman wherein ashtrays were heaved about. Hey, by the way, why do all the anti-smoking nannies look the other way if it is a smoking Democrat in the White House? And by smoking Democrat I mean an actual smoking person with tobacco, and all. Not the way they claim Michelle is “smoking.”
These may seem like no big whoop examples to some, but they are often more dangerous than the obvious “in your face” examples. They are insidious. They are sneaky. Memorable phrases, stealth narratives, purposeful omissions all work their way into the public opinion. They are MEANT to subliminally change opinion, and they do.
The “Press” also helps the Left by asking leading, ridiculously calculated questions in order to make certain candidates look simply fabulous, at least in their own delusional minds. They practically fell over their own feet in their rush to anoint Barack Obama. Though, prior to his miraculous “Race Speech,” which Chris Matthews said (while somehow managing to keep a straight, albeit beet red and over-heated face!) “transcended politics” and should be ‘taught in every school in the nation,” they had been hedging their bets a bit between Obama and Hillary, like the media whores, quite literally, that they are. It’s as if they can’t see past their own tunnel-visioned and delusional view of the world. Perhaps the tingling in Matthew’s leg has moved into his brain and sucked what little oxygen left in there, out.
Most likely they were supporting Hillary because they couldn’t seem to get over the fact that Bill Clinton was no longer in the White House. Chris “Tingle Leg” Matthews, as moderator of the first Republican Presidential Debate, even asked the REPUBLICAN candidates, “should Bill Clinton still be in the White House?” Um, Chris? Term limits? Elections? Have you heard of them? Let it go, dude. He’d been out for over seven years at the time. It’s pathetically similar to the way they didn’t seem to realize George Bush wasn’t up for re-election – some believe he is still somehow Puppet-Master-y pulling the strings — everything is still his fault, every single problem Obama has is “inherited.”
Well, we did inherit a biased Media. But we can actually change that; by knowing what to look for, acknowledging it and exposing it every time we see it. That is happening now – even Jon Stewart, of all people, has finally noticed.
Even he is embarrassed for what is passing for journalism these days. All the papers, all the network news channels, all the cable channels – scooped by 2 kids and $1300 each. They brought down one of the most corrupt and secretly powerful organizations in the country. One that has been corrupt and rife with graft for decades. And the “press” sat on it.
When Jon Stewart calls the “Press” (I’m still air-quoting them) out, you know the Fourth Estate is insolvent. The general public is noticing too and that trend can only continue; the New Media will soon take over from the Old. Listen closely, Old Media, and you can hear the sound of what was once a somewhat respectable profession, not only crashing to the ground, but burrowing itself in the Earth’s crust.
And I say Good Riddance.
CLIFF NOTES: All you really need to know about “the Press” as it pertains to their coverage of President Obama.
Note: This is particularly prevalent with Chris Matthews, Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann over at MSNBC, though I try to avoid watching any of their alleged newscasts. To be honest, it’s mostly because I’m too afraid that the camera may mistakenly pan down and I’d be privy to what goes on under Chris Matthews’ desk during “tingling time”. And I cut Rachel Maddow some slack because I dig her band, Weezer. However, now it’s personal. You have recently made steam come out of my ears, which frizzes my hair and that is SO not cute!
The old school dinosaur media is solely focused on, and deeply invested in, their “Chosen One”. Now, any interview or round table panel or “news” report on any network or cable news program simply causes my mind to wander, and I see their faces change into Michael Palin’s from a scene in Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life. I then hear and see only this:
…Ooh, You are so big…
..ooh, You are so big…
..So absolutely huge.
…So absolutely huge.
Gosh, we’re all really impressed down here, I can tell You.
Gosh, we’re all really impressed down here, I can tell You.
Forgive us, O Barack Obama, for this, our dreadful toadying, and…
And barefaced flattery.
But You are so strong and, well, just so super.
P.S. If my mind must wander to British men, I’d prefer it wandering to Daniel Hannan. I’d like to see him interview Barack Obama. In fact, I’d pay to see it. Among other things.
